On the corner of a parliamentary publication of 1848, pressed in sealing-wax, a sample of the cocharda nationalis was preserved, as it was called then: national cockade (tarajka; “crestlet”).
The cockade of tricolour was spread all over Europe by the French revolution. At the outset, the trimmings of a hat made of cock-feathers (coq=cock) were called this way, later the pleated ribbon trimmings were also referred to this way.
2020-ban nyílt meg a főapátság sörfőzdéje, azonban a pannonhalmi bencések évszázadok óta aktív alakítói a magyarországi sörkultúrának. Levéltárunkban a sörkészítésre vonatkozó első dokumentumok a 11–12. századból maradtak fenn. Az idei évben ünnepeljük a pannonhalmi harmadik templom felszentelésének nyolcszázadik évfordulóját. A Bazilika 800 emlékév keretében kiállítással tisztelgünk az építtető Uros apát előtt. A kiállítás előkészületei során konzerváltunk négy olyan oklevelet, amely szerepet kap a tárlaton.
The 800-anniversary of the consecration of the third church of Pannonhalma is celebrated this year. In the jubilee year of the Basilica 800, an exhibition pays our respects to Abbot Uros, who had the church built. In the process of preparing the exhibition, four charters were conserved, which will be on show. In the first charter, Stephen – the Abbot of Monte Cassino – at the request of Abbot Uros visiting him transcribes Pope Innocent III’s letters-patent of 1208 for Saint Benedict’s monastery. Február 7-én mintegy húsz egyházi levéltáros gyűlt össze, hogy szakmai megbeszélést folytasson Pannonhalmán. A nagyrészt a Dunántúlról érkező kollégák a közös egyházi levéltári honlap (Matricula) aktuális kérdéseiről, az anyakönyvi adatbázisról, a nagyobb szakmai projektekről, a könyvkiadási folyamatokról folytatott eszmecserét. A napközi imaóra és az ebéd után látogatást tettek Ravazdon, a főapátság sörfőzdéjében, ahol megismerkedtek a belga típusú apátsági söröket készítő manufaktúra tevékenységével. A termékek közül többet meg is kóstolhattak.
On 7 February, approximately twenty church archivists met to hold a consultation in Pannonhalma. The archivists mainly come from Transdanubia and discussed the actual questions of the common ecclesiastical-archival homepage (Matricula), the register-database, the larger professional projects, and the processes of publishing books. After the Midday Office and lunch, they visited the Archabbey’s brewery in Ravazd where they became acquainted with the activity of the manufacture producing abbey-beer of Belgian type. They could taste same of the products, as well.
A Pannonhalmi Főapátság Gyűjteményeinek Értesítője hagyományosan bencés rendtörténettel foglalkozó és a rendi gyűjteményekhez kapcsolódó írásokat közöl. A 2023 decemberében megjelent kötet egyik tanulmányában olyan kódexlapokkal ismerkedhetünk meg, amelyek egy 14. század elején, valószínűleg a tihanyi scriptoriumban írt kottás misekönyv részei voltak és amelyekbe egy török kori tihanyi várkapitány számadáskönyvét kötötték.
The Bulletin of the Collections of the Archabbey of Pannonhalma traditionally publishes papers discussing the history of the Benedictine Order and papers related to the collections of the Order. In the volumed published in December 2023, one of the papers discusses codex-leaves, which might have been parts of a missal with musical notation probably completed in the scriptorium of Tihany at the beginning of the 14th century, and which were used to comprise the binding of the account-book of one of the castellans of Tihany during the Turkish rule.
The Museologists’ Association of Christian Churches, the National Centre for Catholic Collections and the National Committee for Ecclesiastical Art and Monuments held their day of professional discussions in the Greek-Catholic Museum, Nyíregyháza on 16 November. Guided by Irén Szabó, Director, the experts coming from the country’s different parts visited the museum’s exhibitions, and they were introduced to the museum’s creation, collections and plans in an informal discussion.
November 22–23-án az Energiaügyi Minisztérium csoportja látogatott a főapátságba. A csapatépítés és szakmai programok mellett levéltárunkat is felkeresték, ahol néhány középkori dokumentumot tekintettek meg, majd a monostor energiafelhasználásának történetével ismerkedtek meg.
On 22-23 November, a group from the Ministry of Energy visited the Archabbey. In addition to team-development and professional programmes, they visited our Archives, too, where they head a look at some mediaeval documents, then they became acquainted with the history of the monastery’s energy-intake.
2023. november 22-én rendezte meg a Magyar Uradalomtörténeti Társaság a 11. Országos Uradalomtörténeti Konferenciát Gödöllőn, a MATE Szent István Campusán. Négy év kényszerű szünet után találkoztak ismét a téma iránt érdeklődő kutatók, akik a Petőfi 200 jubileumi emlékévhez kapcsolódva az allodiális gazdálkodás reformkori sajátosságait helyezték előadásik középpontjába, de a vendégelőadók révén más érdekes témák is napirendre kerültek.
On 22 November 2023, the Association of Hungarian Domanial History organised the 11th National Conference on Domanial History in Gödöllő, on the Saint Stephen Campus of MATE (Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences). After a four-year involuntary break, the researchers interested in the topic met again, who – related to the jubilee year of Petőfi 200 – concentrated on the characteristics of allodial agriculture in the reform period, however, other interesting topics were also discussed by visiting experts.
November 21-én grúz egyházi delegáció látogatott Pannonhalmára, melynek vezetője Theodore Chuadze, Akhaltsikhe és Tao-Klarjeti metropolitája volt. Rajta kívül Gerasim Sharashenidze, Saba Zaza Gigiberia, Amiran Gvazava metropoliták és Gia Zviadadze protopresbiter érkezett a főapátságba. A vendégek megtekintették a monostort, a kincstárt, a bazilikát, ahol egy rövid orgonakoncertet is meghallgathattak, részt vettek a napközi imaórán és együtt ebédeltek a bencés közösséggel. A levéltárban Dénesi Tamás, a könyvtárban Ásványi Ilona kalauzolta őket.
On 21 November, a Georgian church delegation visited Pannonhalma led by Theodore Chuadze, the Metropolitan of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti. He was accompanied by Metropolitans Gerasim Sharashenidze, Saba Zaza Gigiberia, Amiran Gvazava and Protopresbyter Gia Zviadadze in the Archabbey. Our guests were shown around in the monastery, the treasury, and the Basilica where they could listen to a short organ recital, they attended the Midday Office, and they had lunch with the Benedictine community. In the Archives they were guided by Tamás Dénesi, and in the Library by Ilona Ásványi.
Az Egyházi Muzeológusok Egyesülete, az Országos Katolikus Gyűjteményi Központ és az Országos Egyházművészeti és Műemléki Tanács november 16-án Nyíregyházán, a Görögkatolikus Múzeumban tartotta szakmai napját. Az ország különböző pontjairól érkező szakemberek Szabó Irén igazgató vezetésével megtekintették a múzeum kiállításait és kötetlen eszmecsere során ismerhették meg a múzeum létrejöttét, gyűjteményeit, terveit. Terdik Szilveszter a Papnevelő Intézet kápolnájában, majd az újonnan kifestett Belvárosi Görögkatolikus Székesegyházban kalauzolta a kollégákat.
A Pannonhalmi Főapátság Szent István korában épült templomát 1137 előtt egy tűzvész következtében fel kellett újítani. A II. Béla és Dávid apát idején történt restaurálást az 1210-es években újabb nagyszabású építkezés követte. Uros apát temploma éppen nyolcszáz éve, 1224-ben készült el és II. András jelenlétében szentelték fel.
Due to a conflagration, the church of the Pannonhalma Archabbey built in the age of Saint Stephen had to be restored before 1137. The restoration that took place in the period of Béla II and Abbot David was followed with another large-scale process of construction in the 1210s. The church of Abbot Uros was completed just 800 years ago in 1224, and it was consecrated in the presence of King Andrew II.

Regulájuk szerint a bencéseknek szerzetesi fogadalmuk előtt rendelkezniük kellett örökölt vagyonukról. Dénesi Tamás előadásában az 1661 és 1778 közötti időszakból fennmaradt testamentumok segítségével ismertette a rendbe lépők társadalmi hátterét, kapcsolatrendszerét, műveltségét, spiritualitását. The 25th Archivists’ Day in Győr and the 11th Archivists’ Day of the Little Plain was held in the ceremonial hall of Brenner János Theological College on 25 October. The Director of our Archives gave a talk entitled Benedictine Wills from the 17th–18th Centuries. According to their Rules, Benedictine monks had to dispose of their inherited wealth prior to their vows. In his talk, based on wills from the period between 1661 and 1778, Tamás Dénesi discussed the social background, the scheme of connections, education, and spirituality of those who joined the Order.
