On 7th March, led by Archabbot Asztrik, Benedictine and lay colleagues (our archivists among them) visited the remains of the mediaeval buildings excavated on the Bolt-peak of Abasár. The ruins of the Benedictine abbey that once served as the burial place of our King Aba Sámuel and the archaeological findings were introduced to us by the archaeologists: Feld István, Csornay Boldizsár, Ringer István and Horváth Ciprián.
A Királyok, szentek, monostorok címet viselő multidiszciplináris kutatási program keretében 2021–2023 között régészeti kutatás zajlott Tihanyban, Bakonybélben és Pannonhalmán. A munkálatok a szerzetesközösségek elöljáróinak támogatásával folytak.
Hogyan lehetségesek régészeti munkák és történeti kutatások egy működő szakrális térben? Mit jelent a tudomány művelői és az aktív bencés közösség számára egy ilyen típusú tudományos együttműködés? Miként gondolkodhatunk a hely értékéről és jelentőségéről lokális és spirituális értelemben?
Within the framework of the multidisciplinary research programme entitled “Kings, Saints, Monasteries”, archaeological research was conducted in Tihany, Bakonybél and Pannonhalma between 2021 and 2023. The work was in progress under the auspices of the superiors of the monastic communities.
Királyok, szentek, monostorok – Korai bencések világa Magyarországon a legújabb tudományos kutatások tükrében címmel kiállítás nyílt február 14-én Pannonhalmán. A tárlatot Várszegi Asztrik emeritus főapát köszöntője után Balogh Balázs, a HUN-REN Bölcsészettudományi Kutatóközpont főigazgatója nyitotta meg.
“Kings, Saints, Monasteries – Early Benedictine Universe in Hungary in the Light of the Latest Academic Research”; this is the title of the exhibition opened in Pannonhalma on 14 February. Following Archabbot Emeritus Várszegi Asztrik’s welcoming words, Balogh Balázs, the Director General of HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities gave an inaugural address.
Hankó Balázs, a Kulturális és Innovációs Minisztérium tárcavezetője február 6-án monostorunkba látogatott, ahol megbeszélést folytatott a főapátság vezetőivel. A program részeként megtekintette levéltárunkat és annak értékeit, különös tekintettel a gyógyászattal és a monostori kerttel kapcsolatos dokumentumokra.
On 6 February, Hankó Balázs, the head of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, visited our monastery, where he had a talk with the superiors of the Archabbey. As a part of the programme, he visited our Archives and had a look at its treasures, especially at the documents related to medicine and the monastery’s garden.
Térképrestaurálási programunk folytatásaként az NKA támogatásának köszönhetően két kéziratos térképünk újult meg. Az egyik egy 1778-ban Nagy- és Kisbaráti területén végzett birtokmegosztást rögzít, a másik pedig egy 1844-ben készült ravazdi határtérkép. A restaurálást az Ars Alba Restaurátor Bt. végezte, Szentendrén.
Our programme of map-restoration was carried on, two of our manuscript maps were restored due to the support of NKA (National Cultural Fund of Hungary). One of them records an estate-division of 1778 in the land of Nagy- and Kisbaráti, and the other one is a boundary-map of Ravazd drawn in 1844. The restoration was completed by Ars Alba Bt. of Szentendre.
Több mint nyolcszáz éve imádkoznak egymásért Montecassino és Pannonhalma szerzetesei. Uros szentmártoni és Adenulfus cassinói apát 1212-ben kötött egymással imaszövetséget. Az ezt rögzítő – levéltárunkban őrzött – oklevél szerint minden évben Szent Pál megtérésének napján, január 25-én imádkoznak egymásért a közösségek.
The monks of Montecassino and Pannonhalma have prayed for each other for more than 800 years. Abbot Uros of Saint Martin and Abbot Adenulfus of Cassino concluded the prayer union in 1212. According to the document recording it – kept in our Archives –, the communities annually pray for each other on 25 January, the Feast of Saint Paul’s Conversion.
Hortobágyi T. Cirill főapát vezetésével pannonhalmi delegáció látogatott Rómába és Montecassinóra. Január 25-én Ferenc pápával együtt részt vettek az ökumenikus imahét záró vesperásán a Falakon kívüli Szent Pál-bazilikában. A bazilika bencés monostorának apátja, Donato Ogliari tavaly ellátogatott Pannonhalmára. Április 25-én ő hirdetett igét a magyar monostor 800 éves templomában.
Being led by Archabbot Hortobágyi T. Cirill, a delegation of Pannonhalma visited Rome and Montecassino. On 25 January, they joined Pope Francis in the Vespers concluding the oecumenical week of prayer in the Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls. The abbot of the Basilica’s Benedictine monastery, Donato Ogliari visited Pannonhalma last year. He preached a sermon in the Hungarian monastery’s 800-year-old church on 15 April.
A pannonhalmi monostorépület alsó szintjén öt kisebb raktárszobát használ a levéltár. A barokk cellák közül egy – a legnagyobb – alkalmas volt arra, hogy gördíthető állványrendszer telepítésével megduplázzuk az ebben a szobában elhelyezhető iratok mennyiségét. Terveink szerint itt a bencés iskolák levéltári anyagát helyezzük el, illetve ide kerül majd a kapornaki és zalavári konventek hiteleshelyi levéltárának a restitúciós folyamat részeként hozzánk kerülő 28 iratfolyóméternyi állománya. A síneken guruló polcrendszert a Vasszer Raktártechnika Kft. telepítette.
On the ground floor of the Monastery in Pannonhalma, we make use of five smaller storerooms. One of the baroque cells – the largest – was suitable for housing wheeled carriages to double the store-capacity of documents in this room. According to our plans, the archival documents of the Benedictine schools will be kept here, and – as a part of the restitution process – the documents of 28-running-metre of the notarial archives of the convents of Kapornak and Zalavár will also be deposited here. The shelves sliding along rails has been installed by Vasszer Raktártechnika Kft.
On 26 and 28 November, the library, the archives and the museum received the Archabbey’s co-workers of different branches. In the Archives, not only our office and storeroom were opened, but we also talked about our everyday work and plans. Within the framework of the programme, our colleagues could finally have a look at the most important documents entrusted to our care.
November 26-án és 28-án a könyvtár, a levéltár és a múzeum a Főapátság más részlegeiben dolgozó munkatársait látta vendégül. A levéltárban nemcsak irodánkat és raktárainkat mutattuk meg, hanem beszéltünk mindennapi munkánkról és terveinkről is. A program keretében kollégáink végül megtekinthették a ránk bízott legfontosabb dokumentumokat.
Az ősz folyamán számos csoport kereste fel levéltárunkat. Az iskolai osztályok mellett a Budapesti Fesztiválzenekar támogatói, az Eötvös Collegium Történész Műhelye, a Fiatal Levéltárosok Egyesülete, az MCC Győri Képzési Központjának csoportja, az EBESz Nagyköveti Találkozójának résztvevői, illetve a főapátsághoz tartozó plébániák hívei jártak intézményünkben.
In the autumn, a good number of groups visited our Archives. In addition to school-classes, the sponsors of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the History-Workshop of Eötvös József Collegium, the Association of Young Archivists, the group of the Győr Training Centre of MCC (Matthias Corvinus Collegium), the participants of Meeting for the Ambassadors of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, OSCE, and the faithful of the parishes related to the Archabbey visited our institution.
Az NKA támogatásának köszönhetően térképtárunk három kéziratos térképe újult meg.
