The restoration of an 11-meter-long charter
Supported by APELSO Trust Zrt, we can have a charter written in 1568 repaired in spring. The contract about this was signed by Archabbot Hortobágyi T. Cirill and dr. Antall György, a member of the board of directors of APELSO Trust Zrt on 19 January 2022. The charter will be repaired by Ars Alba Restaurátor Bt, Szentendre.
The charter contains pieces of evidence related to Deáki, the Archabbey’s estate in Upper Hungary. The settlement was donated to the monastery by Saint Stephen. The landlords in the neighbourhood seized some of its parts in the period of the Turkish occupation of Hungary. The Archabbot of the time appealed to the king, due to which a lawsuit lasting for years was started. Its outstanding document is the 11-metre-long roll of paper containing the investigation conducted by the palatine governor, Mérey Mihály. Local people give evidence about the estate and its confines. The case was ultimately won by the Archabbey.
