The visit of Patriarch Joseph I of Antioch

The Patriarch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church Joseph I visited Pannonhalma.

His Beatitude came to Hungary to participate in the International Eucharistic Congress, and it was his explicit request to go on a pilgrimage to Pannonhalma. He knew that the Archabbey has maintained relations with different Christian denominations for a long time, with eastern churches among them. The Patriarch was welcomed and shown round in the monastery by Archabbot Cirill T. Hortobágyi. In His Beatitude’s company, we hosted Jean-Abdo Arbach, the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Homs and Archbishop Eliad El-Debei of Bosra and Hauran, Syria, among others. The superiors of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church were guided in the Library by the Director of the Archives, Tamás Dénesi highlighting two codices and two charters of the 11th century.
