Commemorating Lancsics Bonifác in Celldömölk

On 16 August 2025, a commemoration festival was held in Celldömölk on the occasion that Lancsics Bonifác – a Benedictine monk, the author of the hymn: Boldogasszony anyánk [Blessed Virgin Mother] – arrived at the Abbey of Dömölk three hundred years earlier.

In the commemoration festival held in the building of the former monastery, addresses were given about the mediaeval history of the Abbey of Dömölk (Karáth Péter), the personality of Lancsics Bonifác and the 18th-century history of the Benedictine Order (Boros Zoltán), and the genesis of Boldogasszony anyánk (Medgyesy S. Norbert). Later, at the mediaeval ruined church, a festive programme was devoted to the anniversary; the speakers committed themselves to support the inclusion of the composition of Lancsics in the Collection of Hungarian Values. After that, Wimmer Roland, the titular abbot of Dömölk celebrated a high mass, and the day was concluded with wreathing the memorial plaque of Lancsics Bonifác.
