A Presentation on Abbot Uros in Győr

The Hungarian Historical Society’s Section of Church History, the Centre for Ecclesiastical Collections in Győr and the Brenner János College of Theology started a series of presentations entitled “Evenings of Ecclesiastical History”. The first to give a presentation in the series of programmes was the director of our institution, Tamás Dénesi, who gave a presentation on Abbot Uros, the builder of the church of Pannonhalma 800 years earlier, for those interested in it. The far-reaching activity of Abbot Uros, the increase of the estates of Pannonhalma’s monastery, the obtaining of documents of legal security, his travels and the reconstruction of the church were discussed in the presentation. The presentation outlined the portrait of a conscious and travelled prelate of a wide intellectual horizon, who is commemorated by the construction of the walls of the church in Pannonhalma and the prayer union between Montecassino and Pannonhalma that has existed since 1212. The presentation was concluded with questions and an informal conversation.
