The "Father Placid Project"
On 24 September, the Archabbey of Pannonhalma and the Committee of National Commemoration (Nemzeti Emlékezet Bizottsága [(NEB]) signed an agreement of cooperation in cultivating, elaborating and presenting the material, intellectual and spiritual legacy of Olofsson Placid, Benedictine monk. The document was signed by Földváryné Kiss Réka, President of NEB and Archabbot Hortobágyi T. Cirill in Budapest.
The cooperation primarily focuses on cultivating, evaluating and presenting the legacy of Father Placid, since the Benedictine monk’s life and work is of outstanding historic significance. As for the project, a travelling exhibition about Father Placid will be put on, his diary kept between 1938 and 1945 will be published, and an international scholarly conference on his life will be organised in Pannonhalma on 5 June 2026. All these can help the publication of a future Placid monograph. The Archabbot and the NEB – also within the framework of the cooperation – invited applications for a juvenile creative competition.
Magyar Kurír published an account of signing the agreement, which can be read here.
